Here’s what you need to know about Piriformis (Sciatic Pain).. Syndrome IntroductionWorking in front of the computer is very hard on my physique, and trying to motivate myself to do it alone is very difficult. That's why I created this forum, and later the web site grew up around the forum.
When I was struggling with my inactivity, a few dozen women on a discussion list for women in the high tech industry started talking about getting fat, and trying not to. At the time I was working for a software giant, and the environment was extremely sedentary (understatement). Donuts and muffins were given out for good work, cafeteria food was fried, leaving your desk was looked down upon, etc. The work environment was actually making it extremely difficult to get up and go. After commuting for an hour (one way) I would sit for 9 hours and commute again. In the discussion list a couple dozen women were having similar motivation / energy problems. Several women were isolated at home as telecommuters, or had the same extreme sedentary work environment that I had. Now I run a home business, and I'm quite a difficult boss. Getting up to go running in the middle of a project is still quite frowned upon, unfortunately, by me. Reading the posts compelled me to follow through with creating a forum in which women could come and feel comfortable talking about exercising and finding people to help us become motivated and stay on track. Another motivation was knowing that after you've put on some weight, working out becomes so much more difficult for so many reasons. I wanted to make a place where people could find support when they really needed it. In my experience, a lot of running communities will look askance at a woman who weighs any more than she wants to, which was the struggle of many women on the discussion list I mentioned. This can make it even more discouraging to go into a running store and ask about events or running clothes or running buddies. And when you already feel bad, a little discouragement goes a long way. Because of this, I wanted to make a place where women could invent their own comfortable environment. Where we could encourage each other to become what we really want to, to feel better about ourselves. And where we could talk about women specific motivation and exercise and self image issues openly, brag about our PR's and our accomplishments, and have fun! And I have actually had an opportunity to run with someone because of this forum! About me: I am a scientific and medical illustrator in Seattle, Wa. Here are my portfolio sites: Biomedical Illustration for scientific and medical illustration, as well as some natural science illustration. My favorite sports are white water river rafting and running. I enjoy watching hockey and soccer, but have had limited personal experiences with team sports. I'll admit that sports dominated by men (football, and untill recently basketball) don't do anything for me. I hope you enjoy this site. Drop me an email some time ~ I don't hear from visitors all that often, but when I do it makes all this work worth while. LINK TO US Beginning Weight Lifting program.
